Every Saturday: 9.15am meet Bexhill-on-Sea Town Hall Square,  in the centre by Memorial. We ride in most weather conditions except high wind or rain. (Please call Caroline 07832 792431 to check ride going ahead ) The shorter route will be a loop of the longer rides giving riders a choice of distance.

Details :
Last Tuesday of each month the Classic Cycle Group join the Bexhill Wheelers for a Tuesday evening ride followed by a social gathering at The Sackville, De La Warr Parade to catch up on event planning and update of latest cycling news in Bexhill . A gentle evening ride (nobody will be left behind), or further for the speedies who wish to split and take an extra route to burn off energy and rejoin the rest of the group later.
Meet time & place : 6.45pm Public Car Park, The De La Warr Pavillion, Bexhill. (Map : click here) or if you can’t make it for 6.45pm, join us later at 7.30pm for the social and meeting at The Sackville, De La Warr Parade, Bexhill TN40 1LS (Map : click here). All welcome.
Route / Distance : Decided on the evening. Usually 3 - 5 miles.

Saturday 3rd March 11.30am - Fairtrade Food and Cycle meet at a hall to be announced somewhere in Bexhill 

Sunday 11th March - Brighton University to Hastings 40 miles sponsored ride..  Brighton Cycle for South Africa. It is being organized by university of Brighton who are raising money for their charity which helps students in Southern Africa.   A 40 mile cycle ride from Brighton to Hastings campus in aid of the Southern African Scholarship Fund. Each SUNDAY starting from 11/03/12 BEXHILL ‘TWEED AND TEA’ FAMILY RIDE STATUS: GOING AHEAD (Very weather - sensitive. The slightest threat of rain, it will be postponed until following month. Please check here for ride status before departing).

Details : 2nd Sunday of each month we meet for a leisurely, short family ride around Bexhill finishing with a civilised afternoon tea at an appropriate tea room on the promenade to be decided at the start of the ride. An opportunity to dust down your bicycle, find something ‘tweedy’ to wear, (just a token item of tweed will do), and join us for some gentle exercise. All cyclists very welcome to join in and participate.

Meet time & place : 2.00pm Bexhill Railway Station, under the entrance canopy. TN40 1EB (Map : click here.) Tea aprox. 3.15pm
Route / Distance : 2-3 miles, with an optional second ride after tea for the more energetic. (Nobody will be left behind).
Bicycles : Class 1-5 (see chart below). Any bicycle acceptable but pre-1980 classics or retro bicycles appreciated if you happen to have one. The flying of Union Jack flags and the attaching of Classic Cycle posters to bicycles is definitely encouraged! - (Can be downloaded from here). Need ideas? Click here or here or here.
Dress code : The emphasis is on tweed / vintage attire rather than the vintage of bicycle, so please find something in the spirit of the antique to wear!

 

 

Saturday 12th May Seaside Rendezvous = Grand opening of Connect 2 - Bulverhythe Coastal Pathe re-creation of the original photo shoot along Galley Hill...........Kissing BIke Guiness Record attempt of touching bikes 1400 needed lots of colour, noise, glamour and razmataz.................. maybe famous celebs - Bike Doctor, Organised Rides, Sustrans, Big Lotter and ESCC........... join in the fun and activities

Bike rides

Arrive at Seaside Rendezvous by bike!

Rides suitable for all cyclists. Cycle helmets recommended.

  • · Bexhill Wheelers bike ride – 9.30am, meet at Bexhill Town Hall and cycle via Cooden Beach to the event at Glyne Gap (6 miles).
  • · Hastings Urban Bikes ride – 10am, meet at Hastings pier and ride along the seafront to Glyne Gap (2.5 miles).
  • Rides from Glyne Gap meeting point
    • · 10.30am – Hastings pier - with Bexhill's Classic Cycle GroupAlong the new Bulverhythe Coastal Link to Hastings Pier and back. Ideal for slower and new cyclists (5 miles)
    • · 11am – De La Warr Pavilion – with Hastings Urban BikesAlong the Bexhill seafront road and promenade to the De La Warr Pavilion and back. Suitable for all abilities (4.5 miles)
    • · 11:15 – De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill, Azur Pavilion in St Leonards
      As above, but a longer ride including the Azur Pavilion before returning to Glyne Gap (10 miles).

  • Treasure Hunt Family Ride

    Get on your bike and find treasure on the beach and new coastal path. Collect your map from the Sustrans tent and then follow the clues. Everyone taking part gets a Sustrans goodie bag and entry into a prize draw to win a pair of Specialized bikes. This event is part of Sustrans Fresh Air Miles.

    Kids ‘Bling your Bike' and craft sessions

    'Bling your Bike' at the Sustrans tent! All sorts of cool crafts and materials to help make your bike really stand out from the crowd. Plus a whole host of other fun colouring and craft activities.

    The Big Photo – 1pm

    Be part of the Big Photo where walkers and cyclists take their places along the new route to record the opening of the path.

    ‘Kissing Bikes' – 1.30pm

    Be part of our world record attempt for ‘kissing bikes'! We need as many cyclists as possible to form a line with their bikes along the path – making sure that the wheels are touching the next bike, while we measure and count

    Cyclists are responsible for ensuring their own safety, obeying highway code and that their bike is operative. No rider will be left behind and the group will take breaks when deemed necessary.

    * CATEGORIES OF BICYCLE:

    Class 1: Pre-1918 (including transitional velocipede or motorised bicycles)

    Class 2: Pre-1944

    Class 3: Pre-1980

    Class 4: Retro or Reproduction (acceptable)

    Class 5: After 1980 Contemporary

    (May not be acceptable for some rides. Check in “events” above)

    Participants are responsible for their own and the safety of any unaccompanied children.

    Sadly we regret no cycling on the promenade as per current byelaws however, we can walk our cycles on the promenade.
